Sigil vs SignWell

A SignWell alternative with the API and MCP server in the price

SignWell is the closest in spirit: a simple e-signature tool with a real free plan, priced per sender. Sigil prices per account, counts documents instead of senders, and includes the API and an MCP server from the Pro plan.

What you would pay

The cheapest plan on each side that covers the month, on annual billing where SignWell prices that way. Sigil has one login per account, so a team shares one account.

Where SignWell is the better choice

  • Unlimited documents for one sender at $10 a month: for one busy person, cheaper than Sigil's Starter or Pro.
  • API access on every plan, the free one included, with 25 API documents a month free.
  • A longer track record and a larger integration list (Zapier and the like).

Where Sigil is simpler

  • The API and the MCP server with the plan's documents on Pro, no per-document API fee; an assistant can send and track pacts.
  • Documents are counted, not senders: a team shares one Pro account at $18.99 for 100 documents a month.
  • Signer pages on your own domain on Pro and up.
  • Unlimited templates on every paid plan.
  • Glyphs typed into the document, so the file you have is the template; the field editor is there too on paid plans.

Switching from SignWell

Upload the same PDF or Word file, type the glyphs where the fields were (or place them in the editor), and save it as a template. Signed documents stay in SignWell; download the ones you need.

How Sigil works has every glyph; the quickstart sends a first pact from code.

Questions

Yes. Both record the signer's consent under ESIGN and UETA, who signed, when and from where, and attach a certificate of completion with hashes of the document. Sigil calls that certificate the sigil.

For one sender with a lot of documents, yes: Light is $10 a month with no document limit. Sigil costs less once several people send from one account, when API documents are many (SignWell charges per API document past 25 a month), or when your own domain is wanted.

No, on either service. Sigil signers get a private link by email and sign in the browser.

Document packs that never expire ($0.60 to $1 a document) are used after the month's allowance; or move up a plan.
